Animal Cruelty

Compare and contrast cultural traditions in the united states such as rodeos, zoo keeping, and animal based entertainment such as circus performances and Sea World with the Spanish tradition of Bullfighting. Are any of these traditions acceptable in 2017? Why or why not?

Comments

  1. Cultural traditions in the United States such as rodeos and other forms of animal based entertainment are all similar to the Spanish tradition of bullfighting for the very reason that animals are being treated cruelly in order for human entertainment, which is inhumane. None of these traditions are acceptable in 2017 because the earth wont be able to thrive and grow if humans are constantly killing and abusing animals.

  2. in rodeos and bullfighting they both are a man and a bull, one is riding it and one is in front of it. they both hurt the bull to make it angry. in bullfighting they kill the bull and in rodeos they don't. circus and bullfighting are similar in the fact they train a animal to do something for a show. that's where that similarity end. same with sea world. zoo keeping is nothing alike to bullfighting.

i guess it's acceptable in 2017. people are still doing.

  3. I think that bull fighting, and the running of the bulls, are worse cultural traditions, than our zoo-keeping, rodeos, and animal based entertainment such as circuses. The only thing that we have that i believe is worse, is sea world and what it does to the whales. For example, comparing rodeos and bull fighting. The rodeos only put the bulls in pain for a little amount of time. I'm not saying it's not wrong that people are doing this to hurt the bull, but in bull fighting, they end up killing the bull for entertainment purposes of the people watching.
I believe that zoos are very acceptable in 2017. Most of the zoos around here are rescuing animals and saving them from going endangered, or even extinct in the wild. Sea world is definetley not acceptable in today's 2017 society. They harm the animal, the animals harm other animals, and the animals are harming, and killing the trainers. Rodeos are still acceptable, because it does not put the bull in pain for an extended period of time. The circus is still acceptable because we are cutting down on the amount of animal usage in the shows.

  5. Rodeo, zoo keeping, and animal based entertainment is used as a way to make money in the United States as well as provide as entertainment. In Spain, bull fighting is also used the same way, but the bulls are killed unlike the animals in the rodeos zoo keeping and circus'. These traditions are not acceptable in 2017 because it is not always fair treatment the animals receive. In some cases, the animals at zoos are not able to survive in the wild and receive better care than they would've in the wild. But those that are forced to do tricks or are harmed is a cruel form of entertainment. In places like Sea World, the whales are not given enough room to move around and end up fighting with the other whales or developing aggressive behavior.

  6. Garrett Boyd: Rodeos, Zoo keeping and animal based entertainments may not be the healthiest environments for said animals, but within the Spanish tradition of bullfighting the bull is stabbed and always killed, no traditions within our states would allow these actions to take place especially for our enjoyment. Animals in American traditions are usually just mentally tortured with set eating times, sleeping areas, incompetent keepers and other nuisances. The bulls in the Spanish bullfight are tortured and killed specifically for human entertainment and traditions without a shed of remorse. The American people are also not aligned within that type of culture as many people now outcry animal cruelty and many even protest the cultural bullfights in Spain. Due to this outcry, the culture has no existence or fighting chance within the states and bullfighting has lost its popularity largely over the past and coming years.

  7. I believe that the cultural traditions in the United States are not very alike to the cultural traditions here in the United States. In 2017, zoos are pretty ethical, and the animals are typically held in good conditions and receive the treatments they need. These animals are not hurt in any way other than from freak accidents. Rodeos here in the states are arguably unethical in some ways, but the animals are always let go afterwords and are not severely harmed. The bullfights in Spain on the other hand are morally unethical at this point, and I feel that killing/harming the bull in such a way is too far in 2017. In my opinion, zoos, some circuses, rodeos and some non-violent forms of entertainment are definitely acceptable in 2017. However, I believe that bullfighting, and organizations such as Sea World are definitely not ethical in 2017. Customs in Spain may be different than here in the United States, but at least from my perspective, I feel that bullfighting is a form of animal cruelty. Aside from various occurrences at Sea World, I think the United States does a very good job at keeping animal cruelty out of major businesses.

  8. The cultural traditions in the united states are very similar to the Spanish bull running. Both are created to provide entertainment to the public and both put the animals in a state of panic or fear to create the reaction they want. At Sea World the whales are contained in small areas and mistreated just like bulls are. The difference is only that less people can be hurt at Sea World. The traditions are acceptable now but at a less extent. Many people are beginning to become upset with the way animals are treated and its becoming less and less common for animals to be used for entertainment. People are a lot more sensitive

  9. u.s. customs and traditions such as rodeos, zoo keeping, and entertainment such as sea world are slightly more inhumane that the practice of bull fighting in Spain. I believe this for one reason that after the bull fight the bull is killed and fed to the patrons. I find Spanish bull fighting to be a very barbaric sport but they are at least feeding people. in rodeos the animals are kept in near constant pain for entertainment. I also think that zoo's and sea world should be either vastly improved or completely abolished, they are taking animals with massive natural habitats and confining them to concrete cells. it would be a brutal and illegal thing to due to a human but since the animals are put together differently we view it as ok. but as a whole I believe none of these practices are acceptable in 2017 when we have so many other forms of entertainment

  10. I don't feel as if the examples such as Bull Fighting should she acceptable in 2017 for others to have entertainment for. Zoo keeping and places like Sea World I think that if only the animals are injured should be in in that sort of habitat since they need help and are not willing to survive in their natural habitat but if they don't fit into this criteria the animals who don't have injuries or disabuility should be able to live freely.

  11. I believe that the Spanish Tradition of Bullfighting is still acceptable in 2017. Compared to other american traditions involving animals, bullfighting maybe more humane. Bullfighting provides entertainment to the people, it also provides food, because they do not waste any part of the Bull that is used. But things like sea world, who take animals such as Orcas out of their natural habitat and force them to provide entertainment should not be acceptable. Unlike Bullfighting where they make use of the animal even after it's death. Zookeeping is a humane tradition, most of the time the animals that are being taken in are unfit to live in the wild, so the zookeepers take them in, although they are not in their natural environment, they are not being wrongfully abused or killed.

  12. These traditons have been etsablished for many years so in 2017, yes rodeos, zoo keeping, and animal based entertainment are acceptable because people are so use to it. Rodeos are different then zoos, the person in charge of the rodeos make the bulls/horses in pain to have entertainment. Zoo keepers recieve hurt animals and treat them well but they still trap them in cages limiting their ability to be an animal.Same with Sea World the animal keepers make sure their well kept and healthy but they also make the animals do things im sure they dont want to do.
The traditions are acceptable only because it has been a thing for years. People are so interested and entertained with animals, it would be a bigger deal not to have zoos, rodeos, etc. It has been a big debate with our society whether to keep the animlas or let them free, yet animals are still in zoos, used in rodeos, circus, and rodeos just for entertainment.

  13. I think zoos and rodeos are acceptable in today's society. The owner of the animal doesn't abuse it in anyway. And more importantly the animal isn't being killed at the end of the event. Spain is a lot different. The running of the bulls and bull fighting is wrong in my mind. Hurting the animal so it'll fight is wrong. And killing the animal at the end is very wrong in my mind. Yes they do sell the meet after but I think you could've got a lot more use out of the animal before killing it. Sea world is a bad place i my mind. Keeping an killer whale in a tank it's whole life is basically killing it slowly. A killer whales natural habitat is the ocean. The ocean covers up 70% of the entire world. I think the whales have hurt/killed the trainers because they're so restricted. They don't have a lot of space and they're probably stressed out by everything happening around them.

  14. In my opinion Bull fighting in Spain is different from American traditions such as Rodeos, zoos, etc... for example while they both do stuff to animals for our entertainment, but the way that they carry out these actions are different. In Spain they bring a bull into a ring and put on a show that will end up with the bull getting killed. but in America the shows are used only for entertainment and they are not killed for the most part. I believe that these traditions are still acceptable in 2017 because the traditions are a part of there culture.

  16. There are multiple differences and similarities when discussing United States Cultural traditions versus those of Spain. Some similarities include that activities in both places are often used for entertainment, and they both are taking animals out of their natural habitats. Some differences include that in the United States the animal is not killed, even though if some performances it may be slightly harmed. In Spain bullfighting the animal is often killed. I believe that in 2017 animals should not be used for entertainment of any kind if they are being harmed.I think that animals should be left in their natural homes, unless they need a better place to live and are beinng rescued. In some occasions if an animal is rescued and put on display a little bit it is okay. I think that no animal should be harmed or killed for a source of entertainment.

  17. There are a variety of cultural traditions here in the United States. Some people will say zoo's and animal based entertainment such as circus's is considered abuse. I do not agree,it gives us as people an opportunity to see these wild animals close up and learn about them. Animals at zoo's are not mistreated they are fed well and taken care of by their zoo keepers. Some animals are even taken in from he wild if they are struggling (sick or injured). I do not like the idea of bull fighting that should be considered animal cruelty. Because they are physically hurting these bulls. - Josh Bonino

  18. i think that zoos aren't as bad as rodeos because at rodeos the bull dies after they defeat the bull and in the zoo or the circus because in the zoo they are fed fairly and live in a good environment. the only thing that is bad about zoos is that some animals re kept in very closed in areas. thats the bad thing. i dont like bull fighting because it is animal cruelty.
