Summarizer
Write a blog post for today’s class. Summarize the videos you watched. Compare and contrast the two classes of people. In what ways were their lives similar or different?  Then share your opinion on this: Does the class of people you studied exist in some form today? How is it similar or different from in Medieval times?

  1. In the middle ages knights were warriors who fought on horseback. In return for land, they pledged themselves as vassals to the king. Only the sons of lords could become knights. Candidates for knighthood began training as pages at the age of 7, learning social graces and skills such as fencing and hunting. The monks were men and women who gave up their possessions and left ordinary life to live in monasteries and convents. They lived very simply, could not marry and devoted themselves to prayer, study, and helping the poor. They also served as doctors. In todays time theirs no kings, but their are roles very similar to kings, like in the U.S the president is the closest to a king.

  2. I watched the video on outlaws and kings, outlaws had to live a life on the run outside of society as the kings in each area ruled with an iron fist over the peasants and his knights of their society. I feel these positions do have a connection to our daily lives at there are many criminals in our world now that live out of our society or live quietly deep within our towns. They stay low to avoid capture, just as many went to the forests within the Medieval times to avoid the small knitted communities they traumatized as the general populations never left far from town, As for kings they exist as a role today quietly ruling over the masses with their riches, they just are not as outspoken and cruel as the rulers of Medieval times. Our world can still be viewed as very similar or very different, technologically our world has been flipped upside down but the same principals of one ruling over another haven't been touched since.

  3. I watched the video about medieval peasants and I also watched the video about the medieval king. The peasants were treated very poorly by those higher on the social scale, and they were the hardest working class of the Middle Ages. The peasant population was also the largest population of people, and the poorest. As a whole, these peasants felt that they were being treated unfairly, and they banded together in thousands to revolt and revolutionize. The king on the other hand was the highest on the social scale, the richest, and demanded the respect of everyone below him. Kings were typically thought of heroic figures, and many statues were erected of kings in these Medieval times. However, some kings were very corrupt, and were not favored by the majority of the people. Either way, kings had the most power, and essentially every class below the king worked for the king. The lives of a peasant and a king are extremely different, with very few similarities at all. The peasants are on one end of the spectrum, while the king is on the other side of the spectrum. They are the two most different classes of people. I do believe that these classes do exist in our society today, although more figuratively. A king may represent the billionaires and money makers in our society that control most of the nation's wealth. A peasant may represent the poorer, lower class workers that make up a large proportion of our society, and are often time the hardest workers. In this sense, our system is similar to the system in Medieval times, but only if you think about in figuratively, not literally.

  4. The life of a peasant versus the life of a King is overall an extremely different lifestyle. The King lived a lot more of a relaxed life, he made the rules and theoretically got anything he wanted, typically having others do a lot of work for him. The peasants were the exact opposite, even though there were more of them they were the ones with no control, and doing a majority of the hard work in the city. The peasants also served as protectors. One similarity would be that both the King and the peasants would be on the same team if another force ever came and attacked the town. Their lives were very different because the King lived a more prosperous life while the peasants lived the exact opposite. Peasants worked hard every day because they had no other choice. Today life is very different but if you were to make an analogy you could say the the President is most like the King because he has ultimate control over our country, and lives in a large, special home. The peasants would most likely be compared to the working class because the working class spends a majority of thier lives going to work, not only to make money but to keep our nation moving, and continuing to succeed. It is very different than medieval times because the working class does not directly just do work for the more wealthy or the "King."

  5. The video was on the middle ages. There were certain standards to become knights and things like that, and people honored the people that were knights. The differences between then and now are basically that we dont have knights and we act completely different then they did. We are all for ourselves and don't really have anyone in charge of us 24/7. Maybe in some other countries they have knights or something like that, but here we do not.

  6. First Video- Medieval Lives- The Peasant and The King
The king and the peasant couldn't have lived more different lives. The peasants were the lowest of society while the kings were the highest of society. The peasants had very little money while the king had all the money. The peasants had to do all the awful jobs and probably didn't live in nice houses, while the king was surrounded by lavish furniture and beautiful living areas. This type of classes does still happen today. The president is like the king. He lives in a beautiful house and has everything done for him. The lower class is not treated as bad as peasants but they still make much less money. Also the president does not have as much power as the king. They still are different because of how much money they make.

  7. First video: The first video I watched as on knights, knights were honored people within a manor are given this title to protect the manor. They acted as the universal enforcer and soldier for the king. The peasant in the second video is the common folk, they do the grunt work for the king. This work ranges from farming, cleaning the horse stables, and building structures. They paid their rent with their work. The only similar thing the two classes share is their allegiance to the king and they devote their lives to him. Today there aren't knights, this work load has been broken up to be handled by many people rather than one. But there are still peasants, these people today are anyone working for a boss because they are working to make the boss wealthy.

  8. the outlaws were always on the move running away from the law. one group was of brothers who didn't get inheritance. they weren't all like robin hood, most were just criminals. they didn't want to follow the law so they turned to a life of crime.

the knight fought for fame, money and his kingdom. they originally got land and food for military services. had a code of honor. they had tournaments. they once killed 5 thousand people because they can. the church allowed them to kill so they would listen to them.

for both it was either military or the church.

the outlaws were against the laws, the knights were sent to kill them. knights were rich and famous while outlaws were dirt poor.

  9. add on-
the knights don't exist today while outlaws aren't the same or as common.
before they had to hide in the woods. they now try to blend in.

  10. I watched the videos on the king and the knights. The king is a ruler of an independent state, especially one who inherits the position by right of birth. The king controls everything and everyone around him. The knight was a man who served his sovereign or lord as a mounted soldier in armor. The king was the ruler of the knights. They did whatever the king told them today. A class like this does kind of exist today. Think of a wealthy business owner telling his employee what to do for the day. If they don't do as they say then they'll be fired. Just like a knight would've been killed by the king

  11. For the most part the lives of peasants and kings during the middle ages were vastly different. The life of the peasants consisted of a life filled with diseases and poor living conditions. Although peasants had more freedom in controlling their lives then most people think. Although they were considered servants from time to time their lords held a feast for them as a thank-you. At one time a peasant revolt was held and changed the way they were treated. In the case of the King his life was much different due to the fact that he lived in a nice estate where people tended to his every need; he never suffered from starvation much like the peasants did. The king, as well, was not in contact with many of the diseases that peasants battled on a daily basis such as fleas and plagues. But the two groups did have similarities when it came to national pride and religion. Both the King and the peasants valued their religion highly. Also, if a group were to invade their kingdom the king and the peasants would band together to fight off the enemy. There are certain variations of medieval style living still seen in the modern world, as some regions have similar architecture, culture, and rituals as those who lived in Medieval Europe. But what differs today is the fact that there are no longer slaves which were what the peasants were once referred to as.

  12. The life of a peasant versus a king in the middle ages was very different. The kings were the highest in the society while the peasants were at the bottom. The peasants had no money and to do all of the work including working on the kings land because they had no other choice. While the peasants lived poorly on the kings land in shack like houses, the king lived in large and nice houses provided with food from the peasants work. The king thought he had to be the most powerful in the land in order to stay in peace. These large differences in class still happen today. The peasants of the Middle Ages are a lot like today's middle class because they have to work everyday for money and food. Also, the king of the Middle Ages is similar to today's president, he is the highest in society and everything is done by the people below him. But, although they were similar, the president does not hold as much power as the king did.

  13. During the middle ages, the term knight referred to a mounted and armoured soldier. Originally, knights were warriors on horse-back, but the title became increasingly connected to nobility and social status, most likely because of the cost of equipping oneself in the cavalry. Knighthood eventually became a formal title bestowed on those noblemen trained for active war duty.A peasant, from 15th century French païsant, from Latin pagus, country district, is someone who lives in the country either working for others or, more specifically, owning or renting and working by his own labor a small plot of ground. Peasants depend economically on the cultivation of their land. They typically make up the majority of the agricultural labor force in a pre-industrial society. Though a word of not very strict application, it is now frequently used of the rural population of countries where the land is chiefly held by smallholders, peasant proprietors.Peasants and kings live a very different lifestyle because of their roles in society.

  14. the 2 videos I watched were on the outlaw and the knight, 2 of the most different social classes at the time. it is true that at the time in England there were robin hood-like outlaws and bandits roaming the countryside and woods. although that is where the similarities end because the outlaws of the time didn't steal from the rich and give to the poor they stole from anyone to line their own pockets. they usually stemmed from young nobility convicted of serious crimes and sent on the run, they were true scoundrels and the polar opposite of the noble knight. on the other end of the spectrum were the knights. the knights were men used by nobles for military service in exchange for land. knight lived by the code of chivalry which dictated honor among the ranks of the knights. they were normally decked out in heavy steel armor and carrying large weapons like broad swords and axes. they held tournaments to test their skill and they also were sort of the "rock stars" of the time. they are a far cry from the thieving outlaws they lived alongside. id say both classes still exist if you look at modern criminal gangs and modern military service.

  15. In England the crime rate was high. The outlaws were held in a specific area that in the land to stay in a house. For high risk crime the outlaws would be beheaded in matters of their circumstance. There were stones as to where the Outlaws would go to be safe because they have broke the law. The stones were so the Outlaws could avoid prosecution or paying fines that they have prevented. As to now a days we do not have stones of prevention or a pass on breaking the law.
